“I’m not crazy!” This is what we tell ourselves, time and time again. But what really lies behind the Cheshire smile?
In the deep south of 1960’s Florida, down canopy roads, amongst blooming live oaks, rests a quiet place of healing. Kirksdale Hospital, a plantation turned mental asylum, provides patients with a calm environment to ease their inner turmoil. At least on the surface.
Darryl Pearl is a young and inexperienced sheriff’s deputy who is charged with a simple task. Deliver a teenage girl, to the remote hospital, for treatment. Molly Walker is that teenage girl, and is anything but excited, about her escort or the destination. Dr. Charles Eckert is the head physician at the institution, who despite his professional appearance, is haunted by demons of his own.
On a warm summer day in 1961, the idyllic tranquility of Kirksdale Hospital will come crashing down, when the facility’s most dangerous patient, escapes! The once peaceful retreat becomes a dark and twisted nightmare, with danger around every corner. Now each must face their worst fears, in a fight for their sanity, and their lives.
